Electric Cars

Throughout the past couple of years, you would have heard about electric or hybrid vehicles as they are growing massively in popularity as people are becoming more aware of climate change and its effects as well as the depletion of fossil fuels which is pushing cars in the direction of being electrically powered last year alone in the UK there was a 144% rise in sales of electric vehicles despite Brexit uncertainties and weak business and consumer confidence.

A big factor for the popularity of electric cars is the car manufacturer Tesla who are the making electric cars more attractive and appealing to the average consumer with their sleek designs and minimalistic interiors. Over the start of the year to the end of September 2019 Tesla’s new car the Model 3 was the best-selling fully electric vehicle in the UK with over 5500 newly delivered in that time period. Tesla also revealed their first electric pickup truck the “Cybertruck” in 2019 which will be sure to expand their customer base on release.

There are major benefits of owning an electric vehicle including:

  1. Reducing your vehicle running cost:

One of the biggest costs of owning a vehicle is filling it up with fuel, especially with the current volatile prices of petrol and diesel and with an electric car you could save around £500 a year vs petrol and £425 a year compared to diesel and you can further reduce your costs by using solar energy by installing a panel to the roof of your car or using solar energy at home. In the UK and other countries there are also government incentives like tax reductions or grants that can also reduce your overall running costs.

  1. Reducing car emissions for the environment:

Since their creation cars have always had a negative impact on the environment and the planet because of the carbon dioxide emissions that they produce that contribute to the greenhouse gasses in earth’s atmosphere that accelerate the effects of climate change. That was until the release of all electric vehicles that don’t produce carbon dioxide when you drive them. Petrol and diesel can only be gathered by extracting it from the earth and it also is transported across the world which also adds to the negative impact of using a traditional car.

  1. Ease of refuelling

With an electric car you don’t need to rely on being at a petrol station to refuel your car and you can charge your car from the comfort of your own home with a home charging unit and you are also eligible for a £500 grant to cover the cost of its installation. Charging an electric car can be as simple as charging your mobile phone and while using a 7kw home charging port your car should charge to full capacity within 8-12 hours so you can leave it overnight on charge ready for the next day. There are also over 25,000 car charging points across the UK and while using a rapid charger you can achieve 80% charge from empty in around 30 minutes.
